Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rashid

BAAS President (1976-1977)

Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rashid was born on 16 January 1919 at Bogadhupi, Chunarughat, Hobiganj, Bangladesh. He obtained Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering in 1942 from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur and MS in Civil Engineering in 1947 from Carnegie Institute of Technology, USA. He earned D.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology, USA in 1948. Professor Rashid started his career as an Assistant Engineer of Public Works Department at Habiganj in 1942. After completing his doctoral degree he joined as an Assistant Professor at Dhaka Engineering College in 1948. He became Professor of the same college in 1952 and Principal of Ahsanullah Engineering College in 1954. He is the founder Vice Chancellor of the then East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology (EPUET) and served from 1962-1970. Dr. Rashid was the Adviser of the Government of the People‟s Republic of Bangladesh from 1975 to 1978. He was also the founder Trustee Member of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand. Professor Rashid was the President of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. He was a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. Professor M. A. Rashid expired on 6 November 1981.
